My name is Beth Dzwil and I play viola with For The Spirit.

I am a full time musician, performing mostly in the classical genre, and a lifelong Christian. I’m a founding member of the Fairmount String Quartet and the principal violist with the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra. I have also played a bit in the jazz idiom. I’m a member of the Tyrone Brown Sextet, with whom I’ve recorded and performed both here and abroad. I’ve also recorded with Eddie Green and Gay Pearson. It’s because of my work with Ty that I was elected a voting member of NARAS (the Grammy organization).
I had been engaged in music ministry at UDLC since about 1990, playing classical music mostly for church services and benefits. That ministry ended abruptly in November of 2003. Doug Evans knew of my sadness over that and enthusiastically invited me to join “For The Spirit” for the Advent season. I have to say I wasn’t sure how I would fit in, as I had no experience with improvisation and this kind of music, but the band welcomed and encouraged me. I was officially “plugged in” to the group in January of 2004. I have learned (and continue to learn) a lot from Doug, Gary and Perry, both musically and spiritually. I am learning to let go of the printed page and just let God speak through the gifts He has given me. Being part of “For The Spirit” has been a tremendous blessing in my life and I pray that the music I play will be a blessing to others. |
