Serving Philadelphia

Upper Dublin Lutheran Church is committed to be a blessing to our community. The blessing happens when people find ways to care for others. We support active ministries that utilize the gifts we are given by God to serve others.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

August 2018

Each August we host families that are experiencing homelessness in our church while they get back on their feet through the Interfaith Housing Alliance. We provide meals, transportation, and a safe, friendly place for families to stay.

We need volunteers from August 8 to August 31 to prepare dinner for the families each evening and overnight chaperones. Dinner volunteers are encouraged to enjoy dinner with the families from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Overnight chaperones report at 8:00 pm, lights out and lock up at 10:30 pm and exit at 7am, mattresses provided and you may bring your dog if on a leash. No experience necessary! Volunteer transportation drivers also needed to take the families at 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in provided van to and from Hope Gardens in Ambler. Chosen 300

Chosen 300

2nd Saturday of the Month

UDLC serves dinners to the homeless in Philadelphia every second Saturday of the month by cooperating with Chosen 300 Ministries which is run by Brian Jenkins, of Zion Baptist Church in Ambler. You can help serve the food outdoors (in summer) near Spring Garden street, or indoors all winter! We volunteer by cooking chicken dinners, brownies, sides, etc., assisting in brief worship service before dinner, and serving food to the guests. Click the button below to volunteer.

Beds for Kids

Beds for Kids

One House At A Time (OHAAT) is a 501(c)3 organization that began as an outreach ministry in 1998 at UDLC. Our “Beds for Kids” program aims to provide children living under the poverty level who are forced to sleep on the floor, on sofas or crowded into a bed with family members with their own bed to sleep in. We know that poor sleep goes hand-in-hand with poor health and poor school performance. In 2018 OHAAT delivered 1000 beds for children in the greater Philadelphia area.

St. James School

UDLC members volunteer and donate to support the great work ofSt. James School, a faith-based Philadelphia middle school in the Episcopal tradition, committed to educating traditionally underresourced students in a nurturing environment. The school is a community that provides a challenging academic program and encourages the development of the moral, spiritual, intellectual, physical and creative gifts in its students.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Third Friday of the Month at 1pm

You can share your prayers through your handiwork knitting or crocheting a prayer shawl. Our prayer shawl ministry makes an incredible impact on people going through difficult times. Often it is illness. Sometimes it is grief and loss. Sometimes the struggle can't be labeled, but it can be felt. Our Prayer Shawl ministry provides a tangible comfort with a spiritual message, somebody's praying for you.

Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes, our “frozen food ministry,” has dinners available in the freezer in the church kitchen for those who could use a helping hand in the form of prepared meal. The freezer is periodically restocked with fresh meals. If you know of someone (friend, neighbor, family member) who could use a meal to help them cope during a stressful time, please take what they need. If you notice that the meals are running low, or are interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Emily Jeske.
