Advocacy at UDLC
Our commitment to advocacy grows out of our faith and our care for neighbors. While hands-on service responds to real and urgent needs, advocacy invites us to listen, learn, and speak in ways that seek lasting change. Together, service and advocacy reflect our calling to love our neighbors not only through action, but through voice and witness.
Social Issues Relevant to the Lutheran Church:
Civil and racial justice
Environmental justice and stewardship
Child protection and welfare

Ways We Seek to Fulfill our Mission:
Identify: Determine resources within the congregation and community that can be utilized for advocacy.
Educate: Invite speakers/organizations to present to congregational groups on relevant issues.
Activate: Write to, call or visit elected officials; attend rallies or vigils; share information with the congregation and the community related to actions and events in support of our mission.
“UDLC’s Advocacy Team members believe in equality for all. We sponsor events to further issues that affect our community and invite local legislators. We believe that we are following in Jesus’ footsteps by advocating in this way and standing up for social justice.”
- Chris Tranchida, Advocacy Team Leader

“As Lutherans, our understanding of Scripture and our theology provide a moral obligation to get involved with the public debate as a concrete expression of loving and saving our neighbor. The ELCA Constitution calls us to advocate dignity and justice for all people, working for peace and reconciliation among nations, and standing with the poor and powerless and committing itself to their need.”
