UDLC Stories: Jasmin Modricker
On a warm summer morning in July Upper Dublin Lutheran Church dedicated a stunning new baptismal font underneath the lush green canopy of the glen. The special ceremony that followed was as unique as the outdoor sanctuary. This time it was not a baby that was receiving the sacred sacrament beside the stained glass windows inside the church. Twenty-four year old Jasmin Modricker started her life in Christ surrounded by His breathtaking beauty. The water reflected a vibrant rainbow, symbolic of hope and new beginnings.
Modricker described the baptism as a surreal moment that she will remember forever. “I vividly recall Pastor Keith saying ‘You have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ’ as he drew a cross on my forehead,” Modricker said. “It was the closest I have ever felt to God and truly feeling like a beloved child of God.”
The warmth from the congregation that day mirrored what Modricker noticed her first time at UDLC. When visiting last fall she was immedietly welcomed and introduced to others.
“I tell my friends and family that you can’t imagine how nice people can be until you come here.”
After graduating from Penn State in 2023, the Johnson and Johnson cancer research scientist was eager to begin her faith journey. She had a long conversation about baptism with Pastor Anderson during the Beers & Carols event and knew she found the right place.
It was important to Modricker that she join a church where she could become involved and was impressed with the many opportunities for service at UDLC. She already volunteers with Chosen 300 and One House At A Time. She was part of starting a young adult members group where they gather together outside of church to explore their faith and enjoy fun activities such as pickleball and hiking.
“I tell my friends and family that you really can’t imagine how nice people can be until you come her,” Modricker said. “I was searching for a sense of community and UDLC feels like home.”
