UDLC Stories: The Nuccio Family
Many of my childhood memories revolve around the church community where I went to elementary school and my family worshiped. As a child, the community made me feel loved and cherished. In my childhood naivety, I believed upholding the church’s traditions was enough, but as I reached young adulthood that shifted.
In college, my understanding of religion deepened. As a Faith Justice minor, I realized that faith without an understanding of social justice and acts of service was insufficient. During those years of discernment, I felt disconnected from the faith institutions of my childhood and focused on a career in community service unconnected to my religious traditions.
Fast forward to becoming a mother to two beautiful and smart daughters, my husband and I agreed they deserved to know God and experience a faith community. However, we wanted the teachings to be about God’s unconditional love with a strong focus on service and inclusion. So, we church shopped until we found a community that aligned with our values.
“The community is welcoming, the youth and service ministries are strong, and the sermons bring scripture to life—often connecting biblical stories to acts of love, current events, and social issues.”
Upper Dublin Lutheran Church fits the bill perfectly. The community is welcoming, the youth and service ministries are strong, and the sermons bring scripture to life—often connecting biblical stories to acts of love, current events, and social issues.
After attending UDLC for a while, we enthusiastically joined and are excited to show, not just tell, our daughters what faith and action can do in our community. To do this, we are committing to be generous with our time and financial resources, allowing this church with such an incredible history and amazing congregation to continue to serve our local community with depth and love.
